Rapid Scan Kinetics

Functional characterization of (metallo)enzymes is dependent upon rapid mixing techniques in which a solution of the enzyme and a substrate (for example) are mixed in a few milliseconds and their spectra followed as a function of time in the millisecond regime. The MRIL operates a rapid-scanning spectrophotometer that follows time-dependent absorbance, fluorescence, or circular dichroism changes [R. S. Phillips, UGa].
