The Center for Metalloenzyme Studies also uses the resources of our National Science Foundation Research Training Group Award to offer an internationally recognized training course to U.S. graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, starting faculty, and industrial scientists. The Inorganic Biochemistry Summer Workshop (IBSW) is now offered every other year in Athens and is open for enrollment by any U.S. scientist. The purpose of the IBSW is to offer the flavor of the unique interdisciplinary training environment available in the CMS to the metallobiochemistry community as a whole. IBSW provides both lecture and hands-on training in biophysical, biochemical, molecular biological, and computational techniques that are uniquely suited for the study of metallobiomolecules. Approximately 50 external and 25 local participants join 20 expert instructors (from the CMS and around the country) in an 11-day intensive introduction to these techniques.
